英文经典诗歌赏析:The Painted Ceiling( h; Y$ r& Y7 y7 J4 N, m
2 ?+ f- K8 H* ?0 E% a4 l" f
  My Grandpapa lives in a wonderful house
) E2 s7 n' J+ d  With a great many windows and doors,/ b0 H# B: _% c& z" Q
  There are stairs that go up, and stairs that go down,% s7 V; V! y6 f( T$ K
  And such beautiful, slippery floors.
' ^+ y% @7 k. L  _+ @2 Q  But of all of the rooms, even mother's and mine,) k' Y, T# o# l% q
  And the bookroom, and parlour and all,
: H; }, L7 N# Y, C0 D; v  I like the green dining-room so much the best
  L& |8 i$ y+ }5 N  Because of its ceiling and wall.
2 ~( i' g% I2 e% y  Right over your head is a funny round hole0 v! T4 B# _8 e. k; F
  With apples and pears falling through;
* Q0 j, D8 ?) N  There's a big bunch of grapes all purply and sweet,0 f. Q' J) K& ]
  And melons and pineapples too.3 V+ _& K% p& K9 p' r( r
  They tumble and tumble, but never come down
- m8 ?- ]% h2 T* _+ G  Though I've stood underneath a long while& W5 b- j3 M( S  d+ q: M& l: |, l4 S
  With my mouth open wide, for I always have hoped1 G( r2 p/ s. O  r( O1 p5 |
  Just a cherry would drop from the pile.& \. C7 z: P9 F5 n, }/ Z
  No matter how early I run there to look$ g3 K% n2 q! I6 l! m
  It has always begun to fall through;' m' m4 r: n* J6 D  C
  And one night when at bedtime I crept in to see,
' W* j5 U4 S4 ]+ a7 S  It was falling by candle-light too.
/ q9 \' J3 G* j. f1 D3 r, i  a  I am sure they are magical fruits, and each one& o* Q6 V/ _. O7 J& d, C
  Makes you hear things, or see things, or go
5 T  v- j1 e6 J* e3 q" t/ D- R  Forever invisible; but it's no use,/ ^3 p! s) M* d; c7 b. b, l
  And of course I shall just never know." |% l- s8 C9 i) ~! [/ S
  For the ladder's too heavy to lift, and the chairs! M$ n: {% y; L/ G7 U
  Are not nearly so tall as I need.
1 ~  p+ K* g4 S3 Y% c  I've given up hope, and I feel I shall die  w, a9 p$ {& K" [& k$ `9 P7 |. h
  Without having accomplished the deed.' D4 ]3 H1 b2 G8 e3 C9 {/ l
  It's a little bit sad, when you seem very near
* S. [: G, V2 E  v( ]- d0 K1 J  To adventures and things of that sort,
+ A5 L: u& [/ X/ |5 V5 ?. B. |  Which nearly begin, and then don't; and you know
& y0 H% _  ]. v  It is only because you are short.
